Retriever Training

Here at Chesapeake Waters we believe in promoting waterfowl conservation by enhancing the natural retrieving skills of your dog. Basic training starts with general obedience to ensure that the retriever is attentive to the trainers/handlers direction.

Then, retrieves are taught in sequence, starting with sinles and advancing to various multiples as the dog progresses. Blind work is reserved for advanced dogs that have completed force fetching.

Frozen and live birds (mallard ducks) are used to keep dogs enthusiastic about retrieving. Artificial dummies are used when teaching dogs a specific skill or new concept.

Let me enhance your retrievers abilities while he/she boards at our facility or choose to join the training sessions at which time I can show you how to work with your pet.

Please call to discuss a training plan for your retriever and together we will set goals for his/her advancement in the sport of waterfowl retrieving and hunting.

Prices start at $370/mo (includes boarding) and may vary depending on the level of training required to reach the goals you have set for your retriever. Additional fees for live birds and Hunt Tests will be assessed.

We are now accepting clients for the 2008 training season. Training sessions generally begin April (weather permitting) and end September 30th.

Retriever Training Class

You may schedule fr classes with you and your retriever. Classes will be held on weekends. There will be a total of 18 sessions (weekends only) over a six-month period. Tuition will be a total of $600.00 plus birds.
